we will never know
What happened to Kathleen Wade? Unfortunately, we will never know. Now, at first, I was upset that we would never really find out what happened to Kathy-or what happened to John for that matter- but by the end of the book, I liked that aspect. I liked that we, as readers, were able to decide for ourselves what we think happened. I'm not sure what I believe. Did John kill her? I think that is a HUGE possibility. I mean, the Rasmussen's say it all the time, "he didn't kill her; he was crazy about her," but, to me, it's not about his love for her. John Wade was obviously more than a little disturbed and traumatized. There is no doubt in my mind that he deeply cared for Kathy. Loved her? Sure. So, if he did kill her, I'm pretty sure he would not even remember. Or, being the great sorcerer that he is, he would just block it out.
"Is this another one of your tricks, Gob?"
"Not my trick, Michael.....my ILLUSION."
So, despite all the language and the weirdness, I ended up liking this book.

I agree. The whole time I kept thinking he was crazy and never completely convinced he didn't kill her. By the end, though, I wasn't as creeped out by him. I still think there's a good chance she's at the bottom of the lake but maybe she really did just leave...
Ok, I think it's Aj's turn to pick the book, but I know she's kind of busy. Aj, let us know if you can or can't and if not, we'll skip you this time.
I just started reading the book yesterday but I'm a little over half way done. I think I will finish it this weekend. If AJ doesn't want to choose, does that mean it is my turn? If so, I know what book I will choose.
Okay, I have to be honest, I was totally bored by this book (sorry Randi, I still love you). It started out okay, but I guess I just didn't get hooked. It was kind of frustrating that we never found out what really happened. BUT...I have a theory. Maybe the two of them decided together that they just wanted to start over and have a completely new life. So, she left first and he pretended she was 'missing'. Then he followed. I bet they are in Verona where they have escaped embarrassment, debt, and all of the rest of their unhappy life. Just a thought.
I think maybe we should skip AJ becuase I think she has a lot on her plate right now. If cami has a book ready, let's do it. It's ok you didn't like the book...it wasn't my favorite either. sorry.
Rand, don't be sorry. In my mind, the point of a book club is to get us reading and we are doing it! I'm loving this!
