So I really like this book. I wasn't sure what to expect of it. I mean, I wasn't sure if it was a novel, or like a boring textbook. Surprisingly, it's kind of like both, but awesome! My favorite quote so far is from the gold medal that was struck in Washington's honor:
"Those pages in the annals of America will record your title to be a conspicuous place in the temple of fame, which shall inform posterity, that under your directions, an undisciplined band of husbandmen, in the course of a few months, became soldiers."
BEAUTIFUL. George Washington was even more marvelous than I thought. I'm only at the part where the British ships have all entered New York and are seriously outnumbering our military. Even though I know we eventually win this war, I find myself seriously on the edge of my seat wondering how we're going to get ourselves out of this mess. I like it.

I think that's a really good description of the book: text book novel.
So far my favorite part (I'm in the middle of chapter 3 heh heh...) is that part of the history is told through people's correspondence. Can you imagine if the presidents of the United States had to print and publish all of their emails and texts at the end of their terms?! I think it would be very revealing.
I have a lot more to read.
I'm almost done and I've really liked it, although it took me awhile to get into it. I've become so patriotic since moving out to Washington DC, and this has only fueled the fire! It's a great reminder of how much our forefathers sacrificed for our freedom, and it's a miracle they won considering how undernourished and under-equipped (is that even a word?) the American soldiers were. But really, I feel like I don't even have to sacrifice one bit for freedom, its kind of been handed to me and others had to put their life on the line. I guess we sacrifice by paying taxes so the military can protect us, but wow, we have such a good life!!
Who is picking next?
I finished the book a couple days ago and I really liked it! Like Debbie, I had sort of a hard time getting into it, but once I did, it was great! It totally strengthened my testimony of the divine plan of the United States. I mean, even in the book, the author is always commenting on how because of this miracle or that, or providence did this or that, etc. The Lord truly inspired the people to settle here. It's an amazing story.
I think your next to pick, D.
